Seek Help

Expect to have limited mobility after surgery. It may be difficult to get up from a reclined position or walk quickly or easily. Also, you will not be able to bend over or lift anything heavy during your initial recovery. Make sure you have someone available to help you get around, prep meals, babysit and do other household tasks for the first few days after your surgery.

Take Enough Time off Work

Tummy tuck patients usually take one to two weeks off from work after surgery (more if they have physically demanding occupations). Although you could probably return a week after surgery and feel all right, schedule two weeks off if you can. This can significantly lower your stress levels after surgery. You’ll appreciate having some extra time at home and return to work even more rested and rejuvenated than if you took a single week.

Eat Well

Your post-operative diet affects how your body heals as well as the quality of your results. Avoid any fad or crash diets or weight loss supplements. Focus on eating balanced meals of unprocessed, healthy foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables and sources of lean protein. Avoid alcohol and smoking.

Avoid Constipation

It’s not uncommon for tummy tuck patients to experience constipation after surgery due to the pain medications. Avoid constipation by starting an over-the-counter stool softener a few days prior to surgery. Add more fiber to your diet, too.

Set Your Expectations Properly

Expect to have some restrictions on your activities right after surgery; for example, you won’t be able to exercise or socialize for a few weeks. Plan to lay low for awhile until Dr. Raj clears you to ease back into your regular routine. Know that ignoring his instructions and rushing the healing process could set you back even further.
