It might surprise you to learn that many women today choose labiaplasty for both aesthetic advantages and medical benefits.

Dr. Joyesh Raj, a board-certified plastic surgeon in the Cleveland, OH, area, understands that concerns about intimate anatomy are often as functional as they are aesthetic. His compassionate, discreet, and highly meticulous approach reflects decades of surgical expertise dedicated to natural-looking, restorative results.

When patients trust Dr. Raj with their labiaplasty, they can relax knowing their surgeon will take the time to understand their needs and unique goals.

While every labiaplasty is unique to the woman, there are often similar driving factors behind it, including meaningful improvements in comfort, hygiene, and confidence.

Relief From Chronic Discomfort

Excess or uneven labial tissue can cause friction and soreness, especially when sitting, exercising, or wearing form-fitting clothing. Even underwear may become highly uncomfortable.

This irritation may worsen over time, making ordinary daily activities a frustrating and embarrassing experience. Labiaplasty gently reshapes the labia minora (inside lips) and, if needed, labia majora (outside lips) to reduce excess tissue, minimizing pressure points and friction.

For many women, the change is liberating. Simple movements feel more natural, physical activities are enjoyable again, and many women say they feel more confident and comfortable during intimacy.

Easier Hygiene and Better Skin Health

Hygiene can also become easier after labial reduction. Folds of tissue can trap moisture and bacteria, making the area challenging to clean properly. This may occasionally lead to recurrent irritation or infection.

With optimal anatomy restored after a labiaplasty, the delicate labial area stays cleaner and drier, reducing odor and inflammation.

This improvement in tissue health can help restore everyday comfort while lowering the risk of skin irritation common among women with extra tissue.

Labiaplasty in Cleveland: A Subtle Procedure With Meaningful Results

Though a delicate procedure, labiaplasty is a relatively straightforward outpatient surgery. By tailoring each surgery to the patient’s unique anatomy, Dr. Raj ensures results that complement the body’s natural structure and maintain sensation.

The procedure’s impact extends well beyond appearance and physical benefits. Many women describe a renewed sense of body confidence. Feeling comfortable in your own skin can be life-changing. These improvements reflect the deeper emotional relief that comes when physical discomfort and appearance concerns are resolved simultaneously.

Labiaplasty, or labia reduction, is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure for women who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their vagina. This procedure focuses on the external elements of the genitals and can reduce the size of the labia minora (the inner set of lips) and/or the labia majora (outer set of lips) for a more beautiful presentation. Here, Dr. Joyesh Raj, a top plastic surgeon in Westlake and Cleveland, Ohio, describes some of the cosmetic and physical benefits his labiaplasty patients enjoy.

Upgraded Aesthetics

With age, skin all over the body loses elasticity, with the labia being no exception. Loose tissue can make the labia look less tight than it used to. By trimming the excess tissue, Dr. Raj can give women a tighter, neater vagina with a more symmetrical and rejuvenated presentation.

Improved Sex

Many labiaplasty patients report having better sex after their surgery. Because the mental component of sex is so important to feeling sexual pleasure, women often feel sexier and confident after having labiaplasty. They also become more interested in having intimate contact.

In some cases, excess labial tissue has been known to create discomfort during sex because of friction. Downsizing the size of the labia can help to end this pain and make it easier for a partner to reach the clitoris for heightened sexual pleasure.

Tight Clothes Are No Longer a Problem

Women with extra labia tissue are usually unwilling to wear yoga pants, bikinis, or other tight clothing because it can accidentally reveal an unwanted bulge or create uncomfortable chafing. However, after labiaplasty, women usually feel comfortable ditching their loose clothing for something tighter fitting at the gym and the pool.

Less Mess When Urinating

Some doctors recommend labiaplasty to their patients who have difficulty peeing. Unfortunately, enlarged labia can potentially get in the way of the urine stream. Worse still, oversized labia that traps sweat, discharge, and urine can leave women more susceptible to urinary tract infections. By minimizing the labial tissue, many of these problems can be reduced if not eliminated.

Interested in Rejuvenating Your Vagina?

If aging or childbirth has left your labia minora looking different than you would like, you may be a strong candidate for labiaplasty. Dr. Raj approaches this procedure with sensitivity and will ensure that you feel comfortable through every step on your way to feeling more confident about your intimate areas. You may request a consultation online or call 440-808-8030.

It can be difficult to discuss body image issues — especially when those issues involve your vulva. Your vulva has two folds of skin: the labia majora and the labia minora. The outer folds are called the labia majora. The inner folds are called the labia minora.

Labia come in all different shapes and sizes. Unfortunately for some, the shape and size of the labia can cause discomfort and even insecurity. If you are not happy with the look or the feel of your labia, our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joyesh Raj is here for you. Here, he discusses labiaplasty and explains the difference between trim and wedge techniques.

What Is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty, also called labial reduction, is a surgical procedure to modify the size and/or shape of the labia. It is most commonly a procedure to reduce the appearance of the labia minora, the inner folds of skin that lead directly to the vaginal opening. The labia majora, the outer folds of skin, can also be modified during the procedure. During the procedure, the plastic surgeon carefully removes excessive tissue, fat, and skin. This is done to create the desired labia appearance. The size of the labia is often reduced and issues with asymmetry can be corrected as well.

What Is the Trim Technique?

The technique that your surgeon uses for your procedure will depend on your unique anatomy and concerns. One of the techniques that is available for labiaplasty is the trim technique.

The trim technique is the most common technique used to perform labiaplasty. The trim technique involves creating an incision along the outer edge of the labia minora to remove excess tissue. The amount that is removed will depend on the patient and their concerns. This technique is an effective way to reduce the size of the labia minora. It can also impact the color of the labia by removing the dark pigmentation along the edge of the tissue.

What Is the Wedge Technique?

The wedge technique is another safe and effective labiaplasty technique. The wedge technique removes a wedge of tissue from both sides of the labia minora. During the procedure, the plastic surgeon creates a V-shaped incision in the center of both sides of the labia minora to remove a wedge of tissue. The cut edges are then stitched back together.

This technique can be used to reduce the size and the shape of the labia minora. It retains the natural contours and color of the labia while tightening the labia minora.

Is Labiaplasty Right for You?

The only person who can decide if labiaplasty is right for you is you. If you are considering labiaplasty to look and feel your best, then it is time to schedule a consultation with Dr. Raj. Please call or email our practice in the Cleveland area today.

An increasing number of women are turning to labiaplasty to treat excess skin and tissue that causes discomfort or noticeable bulging in their external genitalia. However, there is still some mystery surrounding the labiaplasty procedure. Read on as Dr. Joyesh Raj sets the record straight on labiaplasty by answering frequently asked questions.

Why is labiaplasty performed?

Labiaplasty is performed to decrease the size of the labia minora (the inner folds of the skin on either side of the vaginal opening). The goal is for the labia minora not to extend past the labia majora (the outer folds of skin on either side of the vaginal opening).

What causes a woman to have enlarged labia?

Women may have enlarged labia due to aging, sexual activity, childbirth or simply genetic reasons.

What are the benefits of labiaplasty?

In addition to improving the appearance of the female genitalia, labiaplasty also improves personal comfort. The procedure can reduce or eliminate rashes, chafing or irritation of the skin associated with long or oversized labia. Labiaplasty can also make exercise, sexual intercourse and other physical activities more comfortable. Most patients experience a boost in self-confidence after labiaplasty, and many find that their activity level and libido skyrocket due to increased personal comfort.

How long does labiaplasty take?

Labiaplasty takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to perform.

Does labiaplasty hurt?

General or local anesthesia is used to prevent any pain or discomfort during surgery.

What is the labiaplasty recovery like?

Most women take approximately one week off from work to recover. Prescription or over-the-counter medication can alleviate pain or discomfort in the days immediately following surgery; ice packs can also help reduce pain and swelling. Patients are advised to use antibiotic medication to reduce pain and inflammation. Wearing loose clothing and undergarments can help make the recovery process more comfortable.

Patients are also encouraged to avoid exercise and other activities, including sex, that put pressure on the healing wound for four to six weeks. Patients should abstain from using tampons for up to six weeks after surgery.

Does labiaplasty leave visible scars?

When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, labiaplasty does not leave visible scarring. The scars from the incision should be concealed within the natural creases of the skin.

What are the risks of surgery?

Possible risks include:

Bleeding

Hematoma

Infection

Chronic dryness

Numbness

Decreased vulvar sensitivity

Abnormal scarring that causes pain during vaginal intercourse

If you would like more information about labiaplasty and how it can improve your appearance, personal comfort and confidence, request an appointment with Dr. Raj today.
